Recent Highlights:
- Standing with Iowa Workers at the Labor Convention: Labor unions continue to be a pillar of strength for working Iowans. Whether it’s fighting for better working conditions or advocating for fair pay, unions have led the charge. We know that together, we still have a long road ahead in winning back collective bargaining rights in our state, but the progress we’ve made fuels our determination.
- Protecting Social Security: These benefits are a lifeline for countless Iowans, and we will continue to stand firm in defending them.
- Medicare Drug Price Negotiations: We celebrated the second anniversary of the Inflation Reduction Act, which allows Medicare to negotiate lower prescription drug prices. This change, effective in 2026, will save billions and bring much-needed relief to millions of Americans struggling with the high cost of medications.
- NEXT 250 Listening Sessions: We are inspired by the feedback from Iowans about the issues that matter most to them. From healthcare to workers’ rights, Iowans are calling for real solutions that create a more just and equitable future for everyone. So far, we have heard from over 100 Iowans across the state. Iowans are sharing their concerns and hopes for the future. The voices we hear are helping to shape a collective vision for policies that work for “we the people,” ensuring that dignity, justice, and resilience remain at the core of our efforts.
- We are leading the Health Care for America Now and the Lower Drug Prices Now campaigns in Iowa because we know that no matter where people live, what they look like or what’s in their wallets, everyone deserves affordable medicine to have the best chance at healthy lives. We need guarantees when it comes to prescription medications. The greed from drug corporations and their powerful lobbyists are threatening our health and our pocketbook. We also know that every American deserves affordable and accessible coverage when it comes to their health.
We know profound differences distinguish the two major parties on these and many other issues. We know that elections don’t change the world – only movements do, but elections have consequences. We are grateful for our supporters, allies, partners and affiliates as we focus on the future of our state and country and we will be working to continue building movements powerful enough to take on the challenges facing us.
At ICAN our vision is clear: We live in a great state and country and we are willing to roll up our sleeves and work to keep it that way. And to do that we need YOU.
We promise to keep working, protecting Social Security and Medicare, insisting that health care and access to affordable prescription drugs is a right, not a privilege, bringing back the true middle class, giving a voice to those who can’t always speak for themselves. Why? We all have our reasons but at ICAN it’s not necessarily because we’ve been hungry, or homeless, or because we are living on social security, or we don’t have medical coverage or we’re an immigrant…. We do it because it is the RIGHT thing to do… defending the true American Dream.
As we move forward, we continue to honor our 45-year history of creating social change in Iowa and across the nation. We rely on and appreciate your help in making our work possible.
